CAP-ACADIE, NB, March 23, 2025 – With the federal election being called today, the Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce is calling on the political parties to pay particular attention to the economic realities of the regions, especially those of small communities like Cap-Acadie, where local issues reflect many national challenges.
The organization, which represents 200 member companies, reiterates that the issues of employment, infrastructure, regional economic vitality and collaborative governance must be among the priorities of the election campaign. While these issues are experienced on a daily basis at the local level, they have a concrete impact on the country’s overall prosperity. With this in mind, the Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce is putting forward four key priorities to support sustainable and inclusive growth in the region.
The Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce stresses the importance of strengthening economic security by improving local services, accelerating the construction of affordable housing and facilitating skills recognition, particularly among new arrivals. It also stresses the need to approve structuring economic projects more quickly. To improve the reliability of supply chains, it calls for targeted investment in regional infrastructure and greater fluidity in interprovincial trade, including labour mobility. The Chamber also calls for a firm response from the federal government to the tariff war with the United States, in order to protect local exporters and promote market diversification.
To support economic growth and innovation, the Chamber is calling for programs and financing better adapted to the realities of rural and francophone SMEs. It also recommends curbing tax increases, abolishing non-competitive tax measures and modernizing innovation tax credits. Finally, it stresses the importance of collaborative governance, where local chambers are recognized as partners in economic policy development and program implementation. The Chamber also advocates more flexible economic immigration, better aligned with the concrete needs of the regional labour market.
“Our entrepreneurs demonstrate exemplary resilience in the face of everyday obstacles. It’s imperative that political decision-makers recognize and support their efforts because Cap-Acadie’s vitality depends on our collective ability to meet these challenges. By working hand in hand with our elected representatives, we can build a prosperous economic future for our region,” says Anthony Azard, Chief Executive Officer of the Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce.
The Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce will soon be holding meetings with candidates in the Beauséjour riding to discuss their commitments to regional economic development. It will also be organizing mobilization activities in both official languages, with the aim of informing the population and encouraging open dialogue.
