STATEMENT — The Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce congratulates Bernard Richard, pillar of the Francophone and Acadian community, for the Order of Canada

Cap-Acadie, NB, December 19, 2024 — The Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce would like to express its warmest congratulations to Bernard Richard, a distinguished member of our Chamber and our community, on his recent appointment to the Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest honours.

Mr. Richard is recognized for his exceptional career as a lawyer, social worker and politician. He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1991 to 2003, holding various ministerial positions, including Minister of Education and Minister of Justice and Attorney General. He was subsequently appointed Ombudsman of New Brunswick in 2004 and the first Child and Youth Advocate in 2006, before retiring in 2011.

His unwavering commitment to the Acadian community and his dedication to promoting the rights of children and youth are testament to his exemplary leadership and passion for public service. Today, Mr. Richard continues to invest his time in the well-being of his community and the province through various causes and for the benefit of local people.

This national recognition highlights the significant impact of his contributions to the social and political development of our region and beyond. We are honoured to count Mr. Richard among the influential members of our business community and salute his inspiring journey. Being appointed to the Order of Canada means belonging to a group of leaders and visionaries who inspire change and hope for future generations.
