Investment and Competitiveness: A Budget in Line With the Needs of the Business Community and the Political Context

CAP-ACADIE, NB, March 18, 2025 – The Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce takes note of the 2025-2026 budget presented today by the Government of New Brunswick, and underscores the importance of the investments announced in the economic ecosystem. It was imperative that funds be injected into key sectors such as health, housing and social services, pillars essential to the vitality and attractiveness of the region’s businesses.

The government needed to reinvest in its infrastructure to ensure a climate conducive to economic growth and innovation. These measures will contribute directly to strengthening the competitiveness of the local market and supporting businesses in an ever-changing economic context.

“A region’s economy depends on its ability to attract and retain talent, provide an environment conducive to innovation and support its entrepreneurs. This budget sends an encouraging signal about the government’s commitment to these priorities. The Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce will continue to be a mobilizing force in transforming these investments into concrete opportunities for our businesses,” says Anthony Azard, Chief Executive Officer of the Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce.

The current political context, notably the uncertainties associated with U.S. tariffs and increased investment in health, social services and education, justified a certain level of deficit. It would have been difficult to oppose these strategic decisions, given the challenges facing the economy.

The Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce also welcomes the establishment of a $50 million contingency fund in the event of major economic impacts related to the U.S. tariffs. This measure demonstrates a proactive approach to international market uncertainties and a commitment to protecting businesses against unforeseen economic disruption.

“Economic dynamism requires courageous and strategic decisions. This budget highlights the importance of increased support for key sectors of our economy. The challenge now will be to ensure effective implementation of the measures announced. The Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce is ready to play an active role in this transition to maximize the benefits for the region,” adds Mr. Azard.

Always committed to the region’s economic development, the Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce intends to remain a leading partner for local entrepreneurs and businesses. The organization is also positioning itself as a key player in the implementation and delivery of programs designed to foster economic growth and strengthen the resilience of the entrepreneurial fabric.

The Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce will continue its efforts to defend the interests of the region’s businesses and collaborate with decision-makers to ensure a dynamic business environment conducive to Cap-Acadie’s economic prosperity.
