720 seconds to support our businesses: an initiative worth the detour!

GRAND-BARACHOIS, NB., August 23, 2022 — The Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce is launching an original mission to the local population: take a 720-second detour to support businesses affected by the closure of Kouchibouguac River Bridge 1.

The 720 seconds to support our businesses awareness campaign is focused on the citizens of Beaubassin-East Rural Community and the Village of Cap-Pelé with the aim to encourage them to make an additional collective effort by taking the detour and support local businesses close to the bridge. There are close to 20 businesses that has been identified in the affected zones.

“While we are very excited about the new bridge, with the COVID-19 post-pandemic recovery, those businesses need an extra boost in promotion to get to full recovery of their operations. By taking the 12 minutes detour, we hope to minimize the negative impacts associated with the closure by transforming it into an incredible opportunity to enhance shopping local,” says Natalie Cormier, president of the Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce.

On social media, the Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce will occasionally share a story of a business impacted by the closure. People will be able to join the discussion on social media using the hashtag #720secsNB.

The team is also working with key partners on an adequate promotional signage plan to invite locals and visitors to check businesses that will be hard hit by the consequences of this prolonged closure.

“The last thing we want is for our businesses to suffer from this shutdown. While we hope for minimal loss of revenue from our businesses, I urge businesses going through tough times to reach the Chamber of Commerce so that we can act in your best interests,” says Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Azard.

In addition, the Cap-Acadie Chamber of Commerce will announce soon a new phase of the Passeport Sud-Acadie next October, which will also make it possible to make centralized promotional efforts on businesses located in the area affected by the closure of the bridge.

720 seconds to support our businesses will take place until the opening of the new bridge and the restoration of the link between the two communities, planned within the next two years.
